This scholarship was established in 2013, by Mrs. Tonya Poling in honor of Don Beckett, DVM.  Dr. Beckett was a 1951 graduate of Lawrenceburg High School, attended two years of pre-veterinary classes at Purdue University and graduated from Ohio State University in 1957 with his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.  After practicing in Orville, Ohio for two years, Dr. Beckett opened the Beckett Veterinary Clinic in Rising Sun.  Dr. Beckett, known as “Doc” raised his four sons in Rising Sun and lovingly served as the community veterinarian for 54 years.  Doc will be remembered for his kind and caring nature, his sense of humor, beautiful blue eyes and his years of dedication to the people and their animals of Ohio County and surrounding communities.  Doc passed away in Rising Sun in 2016 at the age of 83.
